Common Cat Ailments

As a cat ages, his body tissue starts to degenerate. This is inevitable and cannot be prevented, although with care from both owner and vet the effects can be eased. Old cats are prone to a number of particular ailments:
-claw wounds, owing to a decreasing ability to retract them efficiently
-coat and skin complaints, owing to inefficient self- grooming
-cold-related problems, owing to decreased body temperature regulation
-constipation, owing to decreased digestive efficiency
-deafness
-heart disease
-high blood pressure (hypertension)
-incontinence
-increased predisposition to furballs
-injury, owing to decrease in agility
-joint stiffness and arthritis
-kidney disease
-liver failure
-loss of appetite
-obesity-related problems
-senility
-sight problems
-tooth and gum problems

Seek veterinary advice for all of these ailments — the more quickly they are dealt with the more likely it is that the treatment will be successful, and your cat's comfortable life prolonged.
