Praise, reward and punishment for your kitten

Cats love praise and appreciate rewards, but they don't understand punishment as humans do; therefore cannot respond to physical or verbal reprimands it same way that humans might. For this reason praise and reward any desired behaviour. Your kitten wil soon learn that certain behaviour produces good things and will therefore strive to attain these, whereas other forms of behaviour produce no satisfactory response and therefore are unrewarding for him. If your cat displays any kind of undesired behaviour, try to convert his actions into something more desirable.

Never physically reprimand your kitten, as this will do any good; it will only serve to frighten him and alienate him from you. Remember that building trust takes a good deal of time, but destroying it can only take a second of inappropriate response on your part.
