Orphaned kittens

In the rare instances when unweaned kittens are abandoned or orphaned, it is necessary to hand-rear them. This is a hugely time-consuming and tiring business, although usually ultimately rewarding if the helpless babies grow into healthy and independent young cats. If the kittens are left without a mother for whatever reason, consult your vet immediately — he or she may know of a potential feline foster mother, be able to put you in touch with an experienced breeder for tips, or offer advice themselves on how to hand-rear the kittens.
